MCA DETROIT HISTORY

Creating MCA Detroit has the advantage of providing for a single association that can henceforth negotiate with Pipefitters Local 636 and Plumbers Local 98 on behalf of all mechanical contractors whether they were formerly members of ASAM or PMC (one Local 636 contract instead of two). Economies of scale have proven beneficial for such matters as training, education, safety, industry relations and industry promotion. A single, larger, voice speaks for members in the business and public arenas.

Mechanical Contractors Association of Detroit (MCA Detroit)
In 2005, ASAM and PMC Detroit joined to form a new non-profit corporation, the Mechanical Contractors Association of Detroit, with a new industry fund, the MCA Detroit Industry Promotion Fund.

Plumbing and Mechanical Contractors of Detroit (PMC Detroit) Founded as the Plumbing and Heating Industry of Detroit (PHI) Trust Fund in 1956, representing the Metropolitan Detroit Plumbing and Mechanical Contractors Association (Detroit MCA) and the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors of Southeastern Michigan (Detroit PHCC), we’ve been around for 50 years. In January of 2001, we changed our association name to Plumbing and Mechanical Contractors of Detroit (PMC Detroit) to better reflect our contractor membership and the scope of work they do.

BENEFITS OF ASSOCIATION MEMBERSHIP

Only contractors signatory to United Association of Plumbing & Pipefitting Industry Local Unions, Plumbers LU 98 or Pipe Fitters LU 636, can become a full member of MCA Detroit. Association membership includes all of the benefits of a contributing contractor plus the power to initiate change. For a yearly fee of $300, MCA Detroit association members are entitled to vote on labor agreements and other critical labor relations matters that are brought to the general membership. Association members have the opportunity to get involved in decision making by being eligible for appointment to:

  • MCA Detroit Board of Directors
  • MCA Detroit Oversight Committees
  • MCA Detroit Labor Negotiations Committees
  • Industry Promotion Fund Trustee
  • Fringe Fund Trust Committees for Plumber LU 98 or Pipe Fitter LU 636
  • Labor/Management Committee
Any member of the association can also join the national association at no extra cost to themselves. National MCAA membership opens the door to a wide variety of products and services that can help make your company more profitable and professional. The local chapter of MCA provides financial support to MCAA for the many services they provide. This support offsets the need for our contractors to pay an hourly rate to national.
